Remembering Myles

The song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is a 1957 folk song which was written by Ewan MacColl. Roberta Flack brought it to life with her vocals. Some say it was a love song between a couple. For me it’s our family love song. It encapsulates the love that I have for my husband and the love for my children. It’s an unconditional, everlasting and pure love.

The 1st verse is:

The 1st time ever I saw your face

I thought the sun rose in your eyes

And the moon and the stars

Were the gifts you gave

To the dark, and endless skies

My love

When we 1st saw Myles’ face,

It was pure joy, excitement and love

This beautiful boy who we called Manny

Was an old soul from birth

He is the best son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and colleague

Myles is the rarest diamond.

A jewel

Our gift from God

He would often tell us

Appreciate you Mom and Dad

Love you Mom and Dad

He is our first born child

He was our 1st opportunity to be good parents

We got it right

He made us great parents

The next verse is:

And the first time, ever I kissed you

I felt the earth move in my hands

Like the trembling heart

Of a captive bird

That was there, at my command

My Love

Myles is as tender and heart felt as the lyrics

Each melodic leap in each verse mirrors who our son is to the core. It mirrors his soul.

He is described as kind, humble, brilliant, strong, honest, passionate, a leader and one who loves deeply.

His strength, his heart and his love of life is the essence of who he is.

I saw Myles’ as being a writer at a very young age. His brilliant writing ability and his honesty made him a great journalist. He would often say don’t let anything leave your lips if you don’t know it to be true. Fact check everything. It’s what everyone should do and practice in life

I am awestruck by his passion and integrity of the profession of Journalism

Though Myles is quiet in nature, when he speaks, when he writes, one feels the earth move. He makes your heart tremble

Verse 3:

And the first time, ever I lay with you

I felt your heart so close to mine

And I knew our joy

Would fill the earth

And last, til the end of time

My Love

And last, til the end of time

My love

Myles got a tattoo early on in undergrad

It reads For My People

It means for his family, friends, New Orleans, which he abundantly loves and for Mankind

His hope and dreams are for Democracy

For a just society

His writings reflect that and he truly feels that he could change the world

Perhaps he can

Myles will be our everlasting love

Our Angel

Though we will miss dearly in body,

Our love for him will fill the earth

God has him

That’s the best place to be

Your face Your face Your face

Your face will always give us happiness

Your face will always give us joy

Your face will always give us hope

Your face will always give us faith

Your face will always give us strength

Your face will always give us love

Your face Myles

Your face Myles

Your face Myles

We love you always
